Good gravel isn't rare. It's ignored.
So far away from anything, but so close to everything, there’s little more here than quiet roads and a slice of cool chocolate pie with whipped cream and a coffee waiting at the finish line. Absent any events, promoters, or registration fees, Lingleville is where I find myself and where I’ve found myself time and time again. Gravel cycling has become about everything except the roads themselves, and that’s exactly what this Substack is about–getting back to the roads, and getting intentional about how to ride them.
Why I Ride Erath County Gravel
90 minutes from DFW, a lifetime away from everything else.
Erath County is home to me, but only 90 miles southwest of DFW for many others. From the increasingly busy streets and highways of Stephenville to the lonely gravel roads of rural Erath County outside of Lingleville and south toward Hico, the roads tell a story, a narrative about people, place, and time. Every time I get on the bike, I’m connected to something deeply resonant. Erath County is a place for reflection, gratitude, and undeniable adventure.
